The UN Declaration of Human Rights begins begins with the words: "Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world..." Did you catch that? Human dignity (or value) is inherent and we merely recognize it. But what is not addressed is the question, "What is the foundation for such dignity?"
